For starters, try a new take the classic s’more by substituting a Reese’s peanut butter cup or an Andes Candy instead of the plain chocolate. Or change up the graham cracker and use Oreos to sandwich in your perfectly toasted marshmallow.
Campfires are also good for more than just dessert. You can use a metal sandwich maker with the long handles that opens and closes (think waffle iron for camping) to cook up all sorts of great eats. Begin with buttered bread and fill with any of the following toppings:
Pepperoni, sauce and mozzarella
Ham or Turkey and sliced cheese
American Cheese and tomato
For breakfast, the fun begins when you use up all your leftovers in what’s affectionately called “Hobo Meal.” Using heavy-duty aluminum foil as your container, add any or all of the following ingredients: egg, cheese, hash browns, onions, veggies, leftover chicken or beef. Close up the package tightly and place in the bottom of a well burning fire for 10-15 minutes, turn once halfway through cooking. Open, grab your fork and enjoy!
