Looking at my daughter, it still hasn’t dawned on me that she is leaving for college in a few short months. But before I get all emotional and sentimental, I need to pass a big hurdle: the graduation party. And if you haven’t already been through one, that is no small task.
I have a perpetual to-do list in my purse, and every time I check something off, it seems that I have to add something in its place. Planning started months ago when I, along with a significant amount of local moms, clamored for ice tables, tents, tables and chairs at the local rental center. In the heat of the moment, I threw in a popcorn machine as well (they were running low on those as well so I panicked…).
No time to rest on my laurels though for I still had to figure out what food to serve, decorations, party date, invitations, and – this one was new to me – the theme of the party. According to my daughter, a regular graduation is “sooo yesterday” and in order to save the day we needed a theme to spice things up. We settled on a candy theme – planning to transform our kitchen into an old-fashioned candy store.
So now, one month from the big day, my checklist is still considerable, but my stress levels are down (for now). Remember, catering your food is the number one stress reducer, and every penny you spend is worth the cost.
