Valentine’s Day is synonymous with words like love, chocolate and romance. But often times I think we forget how to create a homemade sentiment that shows our special someone we care, beyond a store bought box of chocolates or a purchased card. This Valentine’s Day, why not go the extra mile, spend a bit of time and demonstrate your love in a unique way?
Here are a handful of clever, yet simple options to express your love this year!
1. Handwrite a simple “Roses are Red” poem for your sweetie(s). Cut red or pink construction paper into a heart shape and tuck your finished dash of love under a pillow, in a briefcase or lunch pail.
2. Use candy hearts to write a love letter. Use colored markers to write the main part of your note, and glue hearts as phrases in the body of the text. It can be silly and whimsical, while still expressing a sentiment of love.
3. Make a homemade sweet for a change. Skip the generic purchased goods, and bake up a batch of your favorite brownies or Scotch Shortbread cookies (recipe below). Use heart shape cookie cutter and decorate with sprinkles, frosting or candy hearts. You can even serve them at breakfast on Valentine’s Day to show that your love has no bounds!
