Ok, so maybe you’re like me and you can hardly wait for cool weather to come so you have an excuse to break out the comfort foods. Or perhaps you don’t want to wish the warm weather away too soon in the name of cozy eats that make you want to put your jammies on and stay indoors. But like it or not, after our recent snowfall and below freezing temps, the cold weather has arrived!
So don’t fret — just take it in stride, light the fire (or flip the switch) and cook up some of those tried and true comforts like Mom used to make. Of the many dishes that just plain make me feel good inside, double-cheese meatloaf and mashed potatoes, the quintessential open-faced turkey sandwich with gravy and mashed potatoes slathered all over it or a pot of my homemade chicken noodle soup (or soup of any kind for that matter) are my favorites.
But sometimes I don’t have the extra time in my day to cater to my hankering for those good, old-fashioned homemade delights. That is where my CobornsDelivers grocer comes in! And what’s even better is I don’t have to fight the snow or cold to go out for those special ingredients, and I can choose from regular grocery items or any one of the amazing local vendors they carry to get my fix.
Want some mashed potatoes? Try Angelina’s garlic mashed potatoes. Just last week at the Coborns’ Open House, I met this talented entrepreneur and tasted some of her delicious, never frozen or processed, homemade foods. You can also order any one of the prepackaged portions from Simply Potatoes. (My preference is the sour cream and chive variety.) Or you can try Creamy Tomato Soup or a Tuscan Pot Roast meal (complete with carrots and mashed potatoes!) from D’Amicos – all delivered right to your door!
While I’m not excited about the early arrival of snow and cold, I am thrilled about the prospect of what’s for dinner these days. In my book, it’s always a good time for classic comfort foods!
