When my husband and I were newlyweds, we were determined to equally share in the cooking, cleaning, and other household duties. Now, 10 years later, we’ve found a balance that’s based more on our personal strengths and interests. Mine are in the kitchen, and his are not. (Sorry, honey.) But on the occasions when he does cook for me, I love it. I adore it. It makes me feel appreciated and loved. So if you guys out there are looking for a way to spoil your honey, consider cooking up a little love in the kitchen.
- Presentation Counts. Find some candles, put out the placemats and cloth napkins, turn on some romantic music, and even use the china if you know where to find it.
- Think about your strengths. If you’re a grilling man, go ahead, shovel a path to the grill, and light ‘er up. Grill your meat of choice and make a couple of simple side dishes to go with it. If you’re grilling salmon, cook some rice and serve fruit on the side. If you’re having steak, bake a couple of potatoes in the oven and steam some broccoli.
- Assemble Only. Buy some refrigerated pasta and gourmet, ready-made sauce, make per the directions on the packages, and serve with a ready-made salad. Other easy ideas include buying a marinated chicken breast, pork loin, fish fillet, etc., following the directions to prepare, and serving with a side of risotto (find it in the packaged grocery rice section) and a fruit or a vegetable.
- Fake it. If all else fails, buy a cooked entrée, warm it up, and serve it on your china to make it look pretty. Go to cobornsdelivers.com, click on “Coborns Diner,” and choose “Cooked Entrees“ for some delicious options.
- Sweet Endings. Visit the bakery section and buy a delectable dessert. Think about what your significant other enjoys. Cheesecake, chocolate cake, French silk pie—you know what she likes.
I hope that these suggestions will help make your Valentine’s Day or other romantic evening a success. Now I’m going to go and e-mail this to my husband and brothers-in-law. This one’s for you, Guys!
